Meet Me!

Hi I am Samhith Ginjupalli, a second year medical student at St. Martinus University. I am aspiring to be either a cardio-thoracic surgeon or a neurologist as I am fasianted by both the heart and brain,

I was born in Saginaw, Michigan in 2005 after which around the age of four moved to Ponnur. Ponnur is a small town in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, where I lived with my grandparents for two years from 2010-2012. In Ponnur I attended 1st and 2nd grade after which I moved to Hyderbad with my mom for 3rd and 4th grade at one school and 5th adn 6th at another. At that point in 2016, I moved back to the US to continue my education from 7th to 12th at my highschool Saginaw Arts And Sciences Academy. And since 2022 Ive been at SMU.

A few things about me- I enjoy the gym, playing(and watching) basketball, listening to music(125k minutes on spotify wrapped), swimming, cooking( I can cook anything) as well as hanging out with my friends. My favorite teams are the Lakers, Pistons, Mets, Lions, the 49ers, and Inter Milan. My favorite artists depends tbf but these days I mainly listen to Drake, Brent Faiyaz, Kendrick, Frank Ocean, and a few others. I like to listen to everything- ranging from rap to rnb to jazz to bossa nova and much more. I want to and have always aspired to be a cardio-thoracic surgeon but I am also interested in either Neurology, neurosurgery, or psychiatry as I am fascinated by the brain.

Why I chose SMU

At the end of my junior year and the beginning of my senior year, I started the dreadful process every highschool goes through- College Applications. At first I was sure I would get into John Hopkins university, which is where I submitted my Early Decision application to, but was utterly rejected much to my dismay and begrudgingly kept applying to more and more colleges. Around January, one of my uncles mentioned St. Martinus University to me at a party and it led to me researching it more and eventually applying there. And as time went by I was left with 4 options- Pepperdine University (in Malibu), Nova Southeastern University( in Ft. Lauderdale), Brown University( in Providence), and SMU. In late March, during spring break, I had a chance to visit NSU to apply for some scholarships and their 6yr DO program, and on a whim after that event took a one day trip to Curacao to visit the school, and I ended up falling in love with the island and the school.

So decision day was approaching. I had yet to make a choice regarding where I was going to spend my next 4 years. One part of my mind says Pepperdine due to its location and and opportunities but it was too expensive, another says Brown since it was an Ivy league but it was also too expensive, and another says NSU since I had an opportunity in their 6 yr DO program and pretty much a full ride other than housing. But from those all I ended up with SMU for a few reasons- it was cheaper, it was faster, and it allowed me to do one thing I loved always, explore.
